Boardmasters 2014 have confirmed yet more names for the already outstanding festival bill of the UK’s biggest surf and music festival. Artists including dubstep and BBC Radio 1Xtra DJ MistaJam, singer-songwriter Lewis Watson and surf-loving musicians Sunset Sons will be joining the already announced headliners Chase & Status, Snoop Dogg and Bastille. The music festival will be taking place Friday 8 to Sunday 10 August at the picturesque Watergate Bay site. Tickets are on sale now.
Also announced and confirmed to play across the weekend are Breton, The Feud and Panda, who will all be performing on the Unleashed stage. Confirmed for the Mavericks stage are Darlia, Life, The Bohicas, Evil Devil, Jaws and Save Your Breath. The View stage additions are Bruno Major, Colin Macleod, HNTR, Charlie Hole, Jessica McEvoy, Son of Jack, Lloyd Yates, John J Presley, Kit Trigg, Tom James, Saturday Sun, Robbie Boyd, Leddra Chapman, Kim Churchill, Kerri Watt and Gareth & Annie.
Established in 1981, Boardmasters is a 5-day event situated in two legendary locations in Cornwall. Festivalgoers can spend the day at Fistral Beach, the UK’s surfing mecca, where Boardmasters will host the International Surf Competition as well as BMX and Skate competitions. The crowd can then finish up with an evening of stunning acoustic music at the ‘Beach Sessions’ gig. Headlining the Thursday 7 August Session will be Fink with support from newly announced Thomas J Speight and Marcus McCoan. Wednesday’s line up is still to be announced. Tickets for the Beach Sessions are on sale now.
The festival then continues down at Watergate Bay, arguably the most picturesque festival site in the UK with beautiful, uninterrupted views of the ocean for a weekend of explosive live music. The festival has grown year on year with 2013 seeing over 150,000 visitors.
Approaching Lines Festival: The Cinematic Surf Sessions Presented by Reef, is stoked to announce the official selection of International features for the first annual event. Hosted 24th and 26th April, at the state of the art Lighthouse Cinema in Newquay, and 25th April at the iconic Poly in Falmouth, The Approaching Lines Festival is a three-night extravaganza showcasing the cream of UK and International surf filmmaking.
“We’ve worked with filmmakers around the world to bring to the southwest a hand-picked selection of the year’s most exciting surf films including a European Premiere, 3 UK Premieres and a host of award-winning movies,” says Festival Director Chris Nelson. “The programme showcases the very best in waveriding, from cutting edge performance in films like Se7en Signs and Groove Move to thought provoking documentaries like The Salt Trail and mind-blowing travel epics like the Arctic-tripping The Cradle of Storms. Across the board, the cinematography is stunning, the sound tracks are epic and the surfing pushes things to a whole new level. I can’t wait to see the films played out in the way they were designed to be seen – on the big screen, in surround sound, amongst a stoked crew”

Alex Gray, Josh Mulcoy, and Pete Devries went on a journey through the remote Aleutian Arc of Alaska. They braved heavy weather, flew on rickety prop planes, and ate seal meat en route to discovering one of the best cold-water slabs in the world. Set against a volcanic backdrop, this is cold-water surf exploration at its finest.

April 24-26 will see the first Annual Approaching Lines Festival presented by REEF hit the UK. Bringing to the Southwest a three-night extravaganza of surfing’s most hotly anticipated premieres, underground hits and award winning features, The Cinematic Surf Sessions is a celebration of the very best in UK and international surf filmmaking.
Hosted at Newquay’s Lighthouse Cinema and the iconic Poly in Falmouth the Approaching Lines Festival takes wave riding to the big screen in Cornwall’s heartlands, championing creativity, the films and the filmmakers.
“We’re stoked to be hosting this specially curated slice surf cinema here in the southwest,” says Festival Director Chris Nelson. “We’ve been working with filmmakers across the globe to produce a hand picked selection of the year’s most exciting films, from eye-widening shred-flicks featuring the world’s most progressive surfers to documentaries and tales of adventure that will stoke the fires for the season ahead. I can’t wait to see them played out on the big screen!”
