BOARDMASTERS ANNOUNCES HUGE HEADLINERS

BOARDMASTERS ANNOUNCES HUGE HEADLINERS TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB, JAMIROQUAI AND ALT-J FOR 2017

At Watergate Bay’s first light this morning, Boardmasters announced its first wave of acts playing in 2017 – including all Main Stage headliners and many more. Cornwall’s own surf and music festival plays host to Two Door Cinema Club, Jamiroquai and ALT-J alongside 13 of the world’s most exciting and varied acts including Slaves, Jake Bugg, Andy C, Patrick Topping and more. After last year’s first ever sell-out success, boosted by the glorious weather, Boardmasters returns to the stunning sun-drenched Cornish coastline for another year, giving festival goers the hottest surf and music action in the UK. The festival runs from Wednesday 9 – Sunday 13 August, with the Fistral Beach surfing action kicking off from the Wednesday. Tickets are on sale NOW via the website.

Indie pop legends Two Door Cinema Club are on an all-time high with the release of their new Top 10 album ‘Gameshow’, seeing the band riding another massive wave of success. The band behind huge hits ‘What You Know’, ‘Something Good Can Work’ and more have soundtracked many a summer. Two Door Cinema Club never fail to deliver and are sure to kick-start Boardmasters in style when they headline the main stage on Friday 11 August.

The ‘Space Cowboy’ himself Jamiroquai will be bringing funk by the bucket load to Watergate Bay on Saturday 12 August.  The multi-platinum groove masters have no shortage of smash hits like ‘Virtual Insanity’, ‘Deeper Underground’, ‘Space Cowboy’ and ‘Cosmic Girl’. The star has more tunes under his elaborate hat than you can shake a bucket and spade at, and will whip the crowd into a funked up party in no time.

Sunday headliners Alt-J  show no sign of slowing down as the eccentric, folktronic three-piece recently scored a number 1 with their second album ‘This Is All Yours’, which earned them a well-deserved Grammy nod. Chilled and electrifying all at once; the shimmering backdrop of Watergate Bay is the only place you’ll want to be as Alt-J close the Boardmasters Main Stage on Sunday 13 August.

Boardmasters are also stoked to announce 16 more new acts. First up are punk upstarts Slaves who tore up the rule book with their raucous, mosh inducing and feel good tunes. Also announced are the beloved singer songwriter Jake Bugg, Andy C who is one of the most iconic figures in global dance music culture, Cumbrian indie pop four-piece Wild Beasts, Patrick Topping  one of the most in demand names in dance music, legendary DJ Roger Sanchez, possibly the most recognisable voice in dance Becky Hill, TQD (Royal T, DJ Q, Flava D), Theo Kottis, Tom Grennan, Solardo, Royal T, DJ Q, Flava D, Cadenza and pop duo Youngr, who will join Two Door Cinema Club, Jamiroquai and Alt-J for a weekend of unforgettable life-affirming performances from the biggest names in music, in the most epic festival setting the UK has to offer. From the first wave to the last beat Boardmasters brings likeminded souls together for a unique festival experience so grab your flip flops, pack your tent and we’ll see you at the beach.

Inspired by the freedom, adventure and creativity of surfing and music, Boardmasters was born in 1981. Expect parties that run late into the night and a beautiful beach to recuperate on during the day. The 5-day event is situated across two stunning locations in Cornwall – the surfing mecca of the UK, Fistral Beach, where world class International Surf Competitions take place, and arguably the most stunning location in the country to watch live music, Watergate Bay. Last year the grassroots surf and music festival welcomed over 150,000 festival goers to sunny Cornwall. Book your tickets now! Website link.

Fistral Beach, the UK’s premier surfing destination, will again host Boardmasters, with professional surfers travelling from around the globe we will get to see who will become this years Boardmasters champion.  The highly anticipated Boardmasters QS1000 will then run from Wednesday 10th until Sunday 14th August 2016 and the action will kick off with the Boardmasters Men’s Open.  Boardmasters will offer Britain’s best professional surfers, such as Ben Skinner, Luke Dillon, Jobe Harris and Lucy Campbell the chance to compete at an international level whilst in home waters.

Boardmasters promises to deliver five days of exhilarating surf action at one of Cornwall’s must stunning beach settings. Fans and festival goers alike are expected to descend on the UK’s surf capital to check out and support both the British pro surfers and the travelling international surfing professionals.  We cannot wait to see who will lift the coveted Boardmasters title this year and their portion of the $30,500 prize purse.

Andrew Topham, Boardmasters Festival Director said, “We are so stoked to see the return of World Surf League (WSL) sanctioning across all disciplines of our event (Men’s Open, Women’s Open, Men’s Longboard and Women’s Longboard). This really drives the level of surfing within the UK and will inspire the next generation of British surfers towards competing at the highest level.  Since 1981, Boardmasters has always been the pinnacle of British surfing and this once again takes us to another level.  We are really excited to see another huge crowd on the beach cheering some of the best surfing that will be witnessed on Cornish shores this year.”

Rob Gunning WSL Europe Tour Manager commented, “WSL is very pleased to be returning once again to the Boardmasters and it is great to see our involvement grow with the addition of a men’s and women’s Qualifying Series event. As we expand across Europe the Boardmasters is for us a key event as it is one of our longest running and most high profile events. The on-site activities, crowds plus the music festival make the Boardmasters very special. It will be great for not only International and visiting European surfers but also for the local Brits who will get a chance to compete on the international stage. The women’s QS event will be a first for the Boardmasters and it is fantastic to see women’s professional surfing included in the schedule.”

Hugo Tagholm, Chief Executive at Surfers Against Sewage said, “Surfers Against Sewage is proud to have been Boardmasters nominated charity for over a decade. We look forward to continuing to work together to promote the protection of waves, oceans and beaches well into the future. We’re stoked to see the WSL sanctioning of the Boardmasters surf competition this year. It’s a fantastic reflection of the amazing contest and to new heights that UK surfing is reaching.
