Beats Down South, started by two Bude locals with a love for music, is an organisation aiming to boost the Hip-Hop scene in the south west by pairing local talent with national stars. Little focus has been placed on Hip-Hop in the rural settings of Devon and Cornwall and the crew will be putting together events combining huge headliners with hidden gems in the underground rap music arena.

The south west also has a booming underground EDM (electronic dance music) scene so the events will double up Hip-Hop and EDM, the events will follow a consistent template with a Main Event (Hip-Hop) and an After Party (Dance Music).

The main event will feature Jam Baxter and DJ Sammy B-side, both extremely high calibre artists. Jam Baxter is probably one of the most talented British writers alive right now and DJ Sammy B-Side is making big moves in the Hip-Hop DJ scene. They have both played festivals such as Glastonbury, NASS and Boom Bap. They bring a very fresh and honest take on UK Hip-Hop and are making really big moves in the scene right now.

The after party has a jam packed line-up of majorly talented DJ’s and producers from all different Genres and sections of the underground dance scene. Headline act for the after party is are Twisted, Tweakah & Pluggerz who are all part of Stomp ‘n’ Wonk Records.

Watch. It’s pretty epic.

Here’s the story;

Created in partnership with the World Surf League, this story takes us through the mind of the whole surfing community. It shows how we are all connected, intrinsically co-dependent, and tied together for better and for worse.

The film features pro surfers Gabriel Medina, Mick Fanning, Sally Fitzgibbons and Malia Manuel, along with a combination of individuals, who define what surfing is and will be.

No individualism here, no ego, no celebration of one hero.

In surf, as in technology, one cannot reach the next level alone.

Without the people around us, without “We”, without “Us”, “I” is nothing.

Together, we make each other better.

Together, we push, we inspire, we challenge and redefine each other.

We Are Greater Than I.

Surf Snowdonia online booking system goes live

wavegarden-0421_Wilco (1024x683)
Surf Snowdonia has announced today that it has launched an online booking system at its website http://www.surfsnowdonia.co.uk/.

The world-first inland surf lagoon in North Wales opens 1 August 2015. The system will allow customers to reserve a session on the wave either as a ‘free surfer’ or to book an individual or group surf lesson. Sessions are available to book from the facility’s official launch day, Saturday 1 August 2015.

Prices to ride the wave range from £19 for one hour of ‘free surfing’ in a beginner bay to £80 for two hours of expert tuition on an advanced 2 metre wave. Bundle, group and off-peak season deals are also available.

The booking system will also allow customers to book a session at the facility’s Crash and Splash water-based obstacle course, or – for younger children – at the sea-themed indoor Soft Play Shack.

Overnight accommodation in Surf Snowdonia’s onsite camping pods will also be available to book online. Each pod sleeps up to 4 people and will allow visitors to relax and sleep within earshot of the waves. The camping accommodation comes in the shape of wooden camping pods which each sleep up to 4 adults (or 4 adults plus one small child). Each pod has underfloor heating and is connected to mains electricity.

Steve Davies, managing director of Surf Snowdonia, said: “We’d encourage anyone who wants to surf on our Wavegarden to book their session online, particularly if they are planning their visit during school holidays or at a weekend.

“As a world-first surf lagoon we were always confident that Surf Snowdonia would generate a lot of interest and ultimately visitors, but the level of enquiries we have had to date has far exceeded what we were anticipating.

“It’s terrifically exciting to now be in our final construction phase, and we’re very much looking forward to opening our doors to our first surfers on the morning of 1 August.”

The globally anticipated inland surf facility will use revolutionary technology to deliver the longest man-made surfable waves on the planet. The consistent and perfectly formed barrelling waves will be variously 2m, 1.2m and 70cm high, and will peel for up to 150 metres. The waves will be generated – at the push of a button – at a rate of one every minute. Up to 52 surfers will be able to use the 300m lagoon simultaneously.

The £12 million surf lagoon will also feature a multi-brand surf retail area, as well as a café bar and coffee shop areas and a 50 metre glass-fronted viewing gallery at the lagoon’s edge. Onsite parking at Surf Snowdonia will be free, and there will be no charge for entry for visitors who simply want to enjoy the food, drink or retail facilities.
