Mason and Coco Go loco.

In this edit Mason goes for acid drops, fins first barrels, wall rides and board slides amongst a traditional air or two in the pool. Then goes skating on the water slides. Coco does some airs and gets barrelled on her …Lost Rocket Redux. Plus wave making wizard Cheyne Magnusson throws down an insane flurry of aerials.

Echoes from a Silent World: Asher Pacey

Echoes from a Silent World: Asher Pacey

Entry for the Lockdown Short Film Contest by London Surf Film Festival.

The concept was simple, dive into the archives. While the world was on lockdown earlier this year, take something old and make something new from the confines of your home.

While unable to work it was creatively therapeutic to dive into old hard drives and make something fresh that reflected the dream-like state of isolation.

The title pays tribute to that brief moment in time where the outside world stood still in early 2020. The majority of the globe could only reminisce on what were becoming faint memories of life outside of the house as reality began to seem like a figment of our imagination.

Rather than make something that got you excited to go surf, I wanted to make something unrealistic and dreamlike, saturated with colors and details from an ocean experience.

To bring the visuals to life I teamed up with Brennan Mercer for Sound Design. His ability to create a subtle world within a world of imagery set the tone for a true visceral effect. These were the sounds of nature and the world we all longed to be a part of once again.

Cynevin: A new Cornish surf film.

Cynevin: A new Cornish surf film.

Cynevin (pronounced k – neh – vin):

Describing a connection to place of birth an intimate relationship with home.

Surfing and international travel have always gone hand in hand. From the culturally iconic 60’s surf film The Endless Summer to the current WSL world tour, the two appear intrinsically linked. This film is instead a celebration of staying put, an ode to home.

In Mike Lay’s case, home is West Cornwall in the UK. As a professional longboarder, Mike is more often pictured overseas, competing and telling stories of his adventures. But the Cornish coast is his first love and this entire film is shot in a 20 minute radius of his house.

While this project was mainly shot pre COVID-19, its message is pertinent to the future of surfing. Travel is never going to be as plentiful and accessible as it once was. Maybe we all need to learn to love home a little more.
