One of the more exciting swell chases is when you gamble on going to a spot that has never been documented and you score. The lads in Ireland know that on the right day when the swell is going to be big and with no wind this place has all the chances of been very special. And that is exactly what happens.

Iconic Australian surf brand Rip Curl is proud to announce it is now a B Corp Certified Corporation (B Corp), joining a global community of businesses who are driving accountability for their impact on people, planet, and community.
The B Corp certification is a reflection of Rip Curl’s commitment to balancing profit with the organisation’s impact on the ocean and beaches that are central to the surfing way of life, along with the people who make up the wider community. The brand has bold ESG targets and the B Corp certification is a stamp of independent approval that Rip Curl is meeting stringent standards for positive social and environmental impact.
The certification is a significant achievement for Rip Curl, recognising the hard work it has undertaken to hit the mark. Included in the certification is the brand’s wetsuit factory in Thailand, as well as its owned operations based around the world, including USA, Canada, Europe, Japan, Indonesia, Brazil, New Zealand, and Australia.
Rip Curl chief executive officer, Brooke Farris, said the certification marks another incredible achievement for the company.
“We are so proud to receive B Corp certification. Our Rip Curl crew have welcomed the challenge of certifying against the high-standards required of running responsible business. The process with B-Lab has seen us both develop and implement a benefit mindset company wide. We continue to make significant steps in progressing as a sustainable brand, with our Global Wetsuit take-back program and the Reflect step of our Reconciliation Action Plan just recently approved. We are motivated by the positive impact we can make both now and in the future.
B Corps are for-profit organisations whose performance is measured across five impact areas: governance, workers, customers, community and the environment. Companies must document their positive impact to apply using the B Impact Assessment tool, and undergo an independent verification process every three years to achieve and maintain certification.
Legendary 3X Surfing Champion, Australian surfer, Mick Fanning, is stoked to be on board with Rip Curl as the company levels up.
“I am proud to represent a brand that believes in doing its part to protect the environment, support our communities, and is committed to using business as a force for good,” Fanning said.
KMD Brands Managing Director and Group CEO Michael Daly said Rip Curl’s certification means the entire KMD business is now globally recognised as a B Corporation.
“We’re so proud that all three of our brands – Rip Curl, Kathmandu, and Oboz – are now officially B Corp certified. Initially certified in 2019, Kathmandu has achieved recertification after significantly improving on its operations,” Daly said.
“Now, we are incredibly pleased to see Rip Curl, along with Oboz, step up to the plate and achieve B Corp certification for the first time. We are honoured to have B Lab commend Rip Curl on its accountability on people, planet, and community. Our commitment to balancing people, planet, and profit now runs through our entire business and we look forward to continuing to produce high-quality products that consumers love, while respecting the community and environment we work with.”
Wade’s World, party on, hell yes. Watch the wrecking ball that is Wade Charmichael displace enough water to put out a forest fire. Hit play and bury a rail the lead foot master…
The desecration of a ‘wild area’ at Whipsiderry as the developers destroy the cliffs for 7 holiday homes has been temporary suspended. The local community are fully against this development and destruction of the cliffs which are home to so much flora and fauna.
Please read on below to see what the Save Whipsiderry Cliffs crew have to say and how you can help. They still need your help, now is the time to politely and firmly put your point across. Fight the good fight people.
We are delighted to hear that the Duchy Of Cornwall has today SUSPENDED the agreement between themselves & the Developer (Living Quarter Properties), which gave access to the foreshore to allow the work to take place.
Whilst this is a TEMPORARY HALT on proceedings, we are happy that the Duchy has listened to the overwhelming public objection to this destructive work.
We would like to express a huge THANK YOU to all the members of public that contacted the Duchy of Cornwall to communicate your objections, we certainly believe these were a major factor in the Duchy coming to this decision.
And of course, thank you to all the members of the public who’ve shown up at the beach everyday, and sacrificed their time & energy
We are unsure at this point when work will start again, but we will keep you informed – Save Whipsiderry Cliffs
WE NEED YOUR HELP AGAIN ‼️
After the very positive news yesterday, it’s been heartwarming to receive all the messages of support. Again, thanks to ALL that have been part of this – you know who you are 🙏🏻
BUT IT’S NOT OVER – This is just a temporary pause, so we need to keep up the momentum. We are now asking you to FOLLOW UP with the MMO & / or Duchy Of Cornwall.
✅ If you sent an email to the Duchy, please take the time today to follow up… Thank them for listening and ask them to withdraw the permission permanently.
✅ If you’ve previously sent an email to the MMO, follow up with them… highlight the Duchy’s suspension of their permissions and to ask them to do the same.
✅ If you haven’t ever sent an email to either, then now is the time!
We’ve collated the email addresses again, and given some guidance regarding what you could include. These emails needs to be genuine, personal & heartfelt, so there’s not a template, but lots of guidance regarding what you could include.
Yesterday’s action by the Duchy Of Cornwall proves they are listening, but we need more, and we need it to BE PERMANENT
This will take you less that 15 minutes, but YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE, LINK BELOW 💪🏻
Naths last view. This is the wave that done it. Shot by Jason Dreyer who also set up a GoFundMe to help Nath.
On Friday Nath Philips pulled into a bomb down at Porthleven, hit bit of turbulence and it snapped his leg. And not just break, a full 90 degrees sticking out horror. Luckily for him he was surrounded by legends and they soon got him on Levy local Pete Edkins SUP and paddling back to the harbour – nearly a mile away, through a five foot swell. It was a full team effort by the lads and they managed to get him up the slip to wait for an ambulance.
Jamie Kent and Jonathan Davies help Nath up the ramp after nearly a mile paddling on Pete Edkins SUP.
As Nath winged off to Plymouth for a few days stay at NHS’s pleasure his mates realised the break and recovery were going to cause some serious drama. Nath is a self employed roofer (Very good if anyone wants to book him later year!) and has a child on the way in six weeks time. His plans had been to put in some serious graft to pay the rent and expenses in the coming weeks had gone out the window. It’s a case of no work no pay, and six to eight weeks out were going to really hurt. Luckily Porthleven entrepreneur and all round ledge Kelv Batt, and good mate and photog Jason Dreyer had foreseen the possibility of a financial crisis and set up two Gofund me pages. The call was answered, the links went viral and within 12 hours over £5,000 was raised. It’s now over £7,500.
Nath had obviously been very worried about the whole thing, so it was a massive effort by all to dig in and help.
“What an absolute whirlwind of a few days, literally blown away with how kind everyone is. First of all I wanna thank the Levy crew @kelvin_batt for setting up a gofund me also @jasondreyerimages for again setting one up both have had a massive response.’ said Nath,
“This time yesterday I was in a very very dark place with worry anxiety and depression… I guess everything happens for a reason but it just really came at a bad time I’m so grateful for every penny that has been donated. Being self employed if I’m not there I’m not earning. Two years ago I broke my foot and and I was that skint that I had to go to work high on codine and morphine with my boot on up on roofs I didn’t have an option my body was still broken for that two years on.”
“Everyone who was involved in the sea rescue and the comforting on land I know I’ve said this all all before but I’m blown away!!!!”
Nath had previously thanked the crew who rescued him.
“Thanks so much everyone !!! Who helped me get to land. @rkay88 @manonaplanet @jasondreyerimages@benwadei @tom_crowe78 @peter_edkins @duncan.coombs@tommybutts @jannerinnit Dave the paramedic from levy @flexi_hex @surfiejim @skindog_surfboards all the coast guard crew @johnnieboydavies @dai_lawton @leo_joel1 @davedoova @kelvin_batt @martin_mynne I’m sorry if I’ve missed anyone but boys thank you so much for helping me that was scary !!!!”
Nath had previously helped a young grom who’s board burned down on his way to a Cornish holiday. Is Guess this is karma.
Them’s the breaks.
As much as this story is of a horrendous bit of luck and bad break, it is testament to the true spirit of the British surf community so give yourselves a massive pat on the back.
We have said his before, there is nowhere like home. It’s not really picked up on or referred to but as much as there are more people surfing than ever there is still a common link between surf communities from Sennen to Thurso and when the shit hits the fan, a lot of people stand up. It’s incredible to watch.
Nath is in for an op tomorrow so we will see what the damage is and update a recovery time. But in the meantime, this a shout out to the legends who have helped him. Good work all! You should be proud.
“This might be my favourite kind of wave, the way the water just sucks back into the wave as it’s forming and how it just makes you commit.”
