Have you heard of the 10,000-Hour Rule? A simple enough idea that claims greatness requires enormous time devoted to any skill. If you put your mind to something and practice, in the correct way, for 10,000 hours then you’ll become an expert, world class even*.
That is, from our niche in life, a lot of surfing.
Take an average two hour session: that’s 5,000 dips in the brine. Even on two sessions a day that’s 2,500 days. Which you’d be hard pressed to manage in 10 years. Which might explain why there are not that many Slater grade world-class surfers in the world.
