The start of the 2020–21 big wave season has been nothing if not historic. Especially in Ireland, where Conor Maguire nabbed what many are calling the biggest wave ever surfed at Ireland’s premiere – and most terrifying – wave, Mullaghmore. Here’s a look back at filmmaker Mikey Corker’s award-winning 2018 docu-series Made In Ireland, which traces surfing’s roots in what was once considered the unlikeliest of surf destinations.

On 29th October, Belharra was unveiled off the Basque Corniche. Thanks to “Epsilon, a former category 3 hurricane with a particularly deep low-pressure system, this outside reef shaped some of the biggest wave of the winter (for now).
We followed the French surfers Rémi Arauzo and Léo Havion in the hours preceding this memorable session, before boarding a boat to witness the premature awakening of this exceptional wave located three kilometres from the coast.
