With the realisation that something wasn’t right and the subsequent diagnosis of a grade 3 torn LCL requiring immediate reconstructive surgery, Jordy’s year quickly flipped upside down. Unable to continue the World Championship Tour, his position in the world title race was compromised, and competing in the 2020 Olympics was no longer a reality. But Jordy being Jordy, focused on the challenge of rehab and getting back in the water.

Every surfer has a home break that has shaped their surfing. For Jordy Smith, without Durban, he wouldn’t be the progressive surfer he is today. It is no doubt that Durban’s punchy beach breaks and rip bowls are responsible for the versatile and high-performance surfing Jordy has done throughout his surfing career. In Episode 1, Jordy finds himself locked down in Hawaii when the world begins to shut down. Fortunately, the forecast showed non-stop swells approaching the North Shore where Jordy spends the next 2 weeks scoring firing waves before being forced to board a repatriation flight back to South Africa.
