Surf City El Salvador Longboard Championships

Surf City El Salvador Longboard Championships

The world’s best longboarders now await the the one-day, World Surf League (WSL) Surf City El Salvador Longboard Championships. The Top 8 men and Top 8 women will take on the right-hand point break of El Sunzal in El Salvador in the winner-take-all format that was introduced to the WSL Longboard Tour last season. The competition window for the one-day final opens on Wednesday, October 9, and runs through Sunday, October 13.

Following a groundbreaking event at the Abu Dhabi Longboard Classic, the competitors are seeded and ready to vie for their opportunity at World Title glory. Led by current No. 1’s Taylor Jensen (USA) and Soleil Errico (USA), they await who will reach the Title Match after contenders battle their way through world-class fields beginning with Match 1.

The Top 8 Men and Top 8 Women Prepare for the Pristine Point Break of El Sunzal
The 2023 Surf City El Salvador Longboard Classic culminated in incredible wins from Sophia Culhane (HAW below) and Kaniela Stewart (HAW above) at El Sunzal’s dreamy right-hand point break. The cobblestone break provides multiple sections for competitors to showcase their dynamic footwork, and ability on the nose. El Sunzal also tests stamina with the wave extending over one-minute rides in the El Salvadorian heat. El Sunzal favors a SSW, SW swell, and due to the point jutting out further from the coastline, it will receive much more swell than surrounding areas to keep it consistent.

The world’s best put on iconic performances in 2023 and now that the World Title is on the line at El Sunzal, fans can expect nothing but their top form.

The One Day Showdown Will Determine the 2024 WSL Longboard Champions
Similar to the 2023 Longboard Championships, the Surf City El Salvador Longboard Championships will include the Top 8 competitors qualified for the World Title showdown. Match 1 will feature the No. 8, No. 7, and No. 6 seeded competitors with the winner of that match moving into Match 2. Similar to Match 1, Match 2 features a three-person heat, but only one will prevail to move into Match 3 against the No. 4 seeded competitor.

The winner of Match 3 then goes on to face the No. 3 seeded competitor before the victor will square off with World No. 2. Then, it all boils down to the best two-out-of-three Title Match against World No. 1 for the 2024 WSL Longboard Title.

Harry Bryant’s Moment in Cornwall

Harry Bryant’s Moment in Cornwall

A very random visit to Cornwall from Harry Bryant whilst he was on a trip in Ireland. A visit back home really.

Luckily he scored the best place you can and with a gut full of mussels and a couple beers to hydrate between sessions, this is the result.

Is there anywhere better suited to putting the new NuWave winter suits through their paces than the Emerald Isle? Ireland is renowned for being cold, wet, windy and wild, and your gear has to withstand the elements if you want to score a decent swell. At the end of last winter, in preparation for the launch of the C-Skins AW NuWave collection, team rider Logan Nicol and his friend and filmmaker Max Alesbury set off for the land of saints and scholars to see how natural rubber holds up in the harshest conditions.

New Wavegarden For Bahrain

New Wavegarden For Bahrain

Introducing the Bahrain Surf Park – Club Hawaii Experience a key component of the Bilaj Al Jazayer development, a sprawling 1.3 million square meters along Bahrain’s southwest coast. With major backing from Edamah (Bahrain Real Estate Investment Company), and GFH Financial Group, this project is about to become a new destination for surfers and water sports lovers worldwide.

At the heart of this Bahrain Surf Park lies our Wavegarden Cove technology. The development is shaping up to be a full-on destination. There will be a surf school to get customers started, restaurants for those feeling hungry after a session, beach bars for unwinding after a day in the water, a skatepark, retail stores, event spaces, and a panoramic terrace offering killer views of the park and the ocean.

What’s more, the Bahrain Surf Park is expected to be a major tourism draw, pulling in around 300,000 visitors a yearand hosting 140,000 surf sessions annually. It’s already earned props from the Arabian Property Awards as Bahrain’s Best Leisure Development. Not bad for a place that didn’t have waves to surf on before!

As Wavegarden’s Chief Commercial Director, Fernando Odriozola, puts it, “It’s a game-changer not only for Bahrain but for the entire Middle East.”

But Bahrain’s surf park isn’t just about catching epic waves – it’s about doing it sustainably. The park is designed with energy efficiency in mind, using 10 times less energy than comparable systems. In fact, each wave uses just 1 kWh of energy (which is roughly 0.10€ per wave) and the smart designs actually recover and reuse part of the energy. So, you can have fun while knowing that your environmental footprint remains as light as possible.

Bahrain Surf Park is set to make a splash not just in Bahrain but across the region. Whether you’re an experienced surfer or someone looking for a fun new activity, this park will have something for everyone.

Chris Calvert, CEO of Edamah, is confident that this project will redefine Bahrain’s leisure scene and help position the country as a top tourist destination. Meanwhile, Hisham Ahmed Al-Rayes, CEO of GFH, highlights how this project will elevate Bahrain’s tourism profile, offering a dynamic recreational space for both locals and international visitors.

Lemoigne, Sawyer Claim Groundbreaking Wins

Lemoigne, Sawyer Claim Groundbreaking Wins

There were no mirages in the deserts of UAE with remarkable performances from Steven Sawyer and Alice Lemoigne to claim inaugural, Abu Dhabi Longboard Classic wins. A true Cinderella story unfolded for former WSL Longboard Champion Sawyer. The South African needed a win to catapult into the Top 8 and he did just that after besting 2023 World Title runner-up Kaniela Stewart in the Semifinals before bringing his steezy style to the Final against in-form John Michael Van Hohenstein. An all-French battle unraveled for the women’s Final and Lemoigne saved her best for last with a brilliant 9.43 over Zoe Grospiron who put on a showcase all her own. But, in the end it was Lemoigne who reasserted herself among the world’s best with a major win heading into the World Title showdown. Now, the Top 8 men and women are settled and all that remains is the one-day, Surf City El Salvador Longboard Championships beginning October 9 through 13.
