London Surf / Film Festival presents a very special screening & UK premiere of remastered cult classic, ‘Free Ride’ Dir. Bill Delaney, accompanied by award winning short ‘Let Me Live’, hosted Friday 26th January at Riverside Studios, London.
Winner of the LS/FF Icon Award, Free Ride celebrates the era defining style, power & flow of Shaun Tomson, Mark Richards, Wayne “Rabbit” Bartholomew et al. Ground breaking cinematography lights up the screen and fires the synapses, while the laconic tones of Jan-Michael Vincent and iconic sound track from Gallagher & Lyle evoke a pivotal moment in time… Rivals jostle for wave time and screen time, proponents of the single fin dual with the new-wave of twin fin riders – sometimes on same wave. It’s a time of hot talents, burning egos, bright boardshorts and brighter still boards, pushing boundaries,‘bustin down the door’ and celebrating the freedom of the ride.
‘Let Me Live’ from award winning Director Keith Malloy celebrates enigmatic Cornishman Tom Lowe. Big wave surfer Tom has paved his own path from the heart of Penwith to surfing’s highest level through pure grit, determination.. and a little help from his friends. Cutting his teeth in Ireland and pioneering unknown waves with a small group of surfers, Tom found meaning in pushing himself to the limit. Featuring the likes of Fergal Smith and renowned, multi-faceted creative Mickey Smith, this film is as much about Tom as it is an exploration of community and kinship
Sharps are providing the Offshores and Yeti are sending in the goodies – this is what dark January evenings were made for… gathering together with a crew of like-minded individuals for the finest cinematic surf session to salute the season ahead. See you there!
