James Hendy left the shores of Cornwall to be marketing manager for South East Asia about ten years ago. One of his duties every year is to arrange RC comps up in the Ments and organise the Rip Curl Padang Cup. And one of the perks of the job, as he sees it, is to get himself some sneaky uncrowded waves in while he’s at it!

One year James even went as far as to arranged ‘a Masters heat’ to ‘test’ conditions at the Ments comp, but this year we feel he has surpassed himself. Seeing an opp to snag a pit in the break between the semis and the final James paddled out on a board borrowed from Matty Wilko and snagged this bomb.

“So grateful for all the opportunities that my work at Rip Curl has given me over the years!” says James.

“The #Ripcurlcup was my first task when Joined Rip Curl Asia in Bali 10 years ago.. To be able to sit in the channel at this years Cup with all the team, with such an amazing vibe, watching the best surfers in the world getting tubed off their heads all morning felt like a reward and culmination of all the hard work the team here has put in over the years. It felt like the Bali gods were beaming down on us!

“Then to be then gifted this wave in the break on a borrowed board from Matt Wilko was truly the icing on the cake!

“The double bird claim was just a bit of fun aimed at my mates sat in the channel who I’d just told I only needed one big pit and to make sure they didn’t stop rolling the cameras! 😜

“Thanks again to all the crew that make it happen each year and to all the Bukit locals that let us take over on the best day of the year! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻✨⚡️✨⚡️✨”

James has had big promotion recently, not sure of his exact job title (MD?), all we can say look out for an extended break and a couple of bombs next year.

Good work Beag.
