South coast legend Roger Castle passed away at the weekend

Roger played a huge role in the history of Wessex Surf Club club from approx. 1979 – 1993, local surfing in general & national surfing via his work as editor of Tube News, a Wessex surf club publication, which was one of the most influential UK surfing publications of it`s time and it was read extensively UK wide way before most of the mainstream publications and the internet came along.

During his role within the club he also brought the English National Surfing competition to Bournemouth pier no less as well as organised many of the regular annual South Coast competitions at the pier!

There will be a paddle out organised for around three weeks time, with Wessex Surf club updating everyone on the exact date/location once it’s confirmed. Bournemouth Pier would be the most appropriate place for the paddle out given Roger’s era.
