Out Of The Rafters

Out Of The Rafters

Out of the Rafters documents Dane and friends going up into CI’s design library storage loft (in the rafters), where decades old magic boards from Tom, Kelly, Rob, Malloy Bros and more are tucked away in their final resting place. Dane cherry picked ones that caught his eye and documented the sessions in epic Mexico and fun waves at home with his friends @eithanosbourne @parkercoffin @mikeyfebruary—as well as shared his personal insights on the how they rode and what each board's historical/cultural relevance is.

Hossegor On Fire

Hossegor On Fire

The sandbanks of La Gravière are apparently well and truly in place this summer. La Gravière offered up three hours of sick pits licked by a light offshore wind.

Desert Point Perfection

Desert Point Perfection

Beauty and the beast, the rewards are huge and also the beatings, but if you don't go, you won' know.  Sick footage from the @global_zoo crew...

While technically part of Desert Point, the aptly named Grower section is essentially a surf spot in its own right. When it's on, it breaks pipe-esque over dangerously shallow coral reef, and it has to be up there as one of the heaviest waves in the whole of Indo. While the rest of the point is heaving with surfers, not many people are usually taking this place on.

The Catch Up Day 1 J-Bay

The Catch Up Day 1 J-Bay

Opening day magic unfolded at one of the world’s premier venues at Jeffreys Bay and the world’s best rose to beautiful conditions. Yago Dora’s momentum from Rio was palpable, posting more near-perfection to lead the surge into the Round of 16 alongside excellent showings from former event victor and current World No. 1 Filipe Toledo, World No. 2 Griffin Colapinto, and Final 5 incoming threat John John Florence. First elimination duels are locked in for the Round of 16, plus women await to get their 2023 event runs underway.

In South Africa awaits the best right-hander on Earth. The pointbreak is a blank canvas for the world’s best surfers to draw creative lines. But J-Bay’s perfection is matched by its pressure. Just two events remain in the fight for the WSL Final 5 and Qualification Season race. Time is running out for the contenders to rise up the rankings.

The second day of competition at the Corona Open J-Bay, has been called off. Small surf and onshore winds are affecting conditions and the next call will be on Saturday, July 15 at 7:45 a.m. GMT +2.

Mentawais Pedas

Mentawais Pedas

The filmmaker @indosurflens landed in the Mentawais for the first time in May 2007. Over the years traveling the islands with his trusty camera, north to south, over and over again. The last few months were extra special, a good run of swell, allowing Mother Nature to create endless amounts of perfects waves, sessions that will be remain in memories forever in one of the most special places on earth.

“Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting –
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.”

A reading of Mary Oliver’s poem Wild Geese opens the latest collaboration between long time creative partners, Nathan Oldfield and Dave Rastovich. Shot over consecutive mornings during the long, recent run of North Coast autumn swell, In the Family of Things is Dave in his element, doing his thing.

Which is all it needs to be.
