No Eddie But More Pe'ahi…

Mother Nature did a bait and switch with the much vaunted Eddie swell for yesterday. As light broke and thousands of early rising Hawaiians found a good viewing spot the swell had most definitely not arrived as expected. Cue a lot of cars with big boards hightailing it to Honolulu airport to try and squeeze on a last minute hop to Maui. Was worth it for Dorian and co as another cracking paddle sessions ensued. Dorian’s tube, around the three min mark above, is a an absolute smoker.

Stay High!

There’s a few brands that are intrinsically connected with surfing. They’ve been there through thick and thin. Sure there are ups and downs on the road but you’ve got to explore the troughs to hit the highs. This is the new Quik campaign and sure, it’s an ad, but as a snippet of the lifestyles we love it’s pretty much hit the nail on the head: It makes you want to go ride…

The “Stay High!”, this campaign emphasizes Quiksilver’s vision of life, finding positive and getting
stoked. There is an infectious youthful attitude that draws us to the ocean and make us surf
down mountains. With the Stay High campaign Quiksilver aims at spreading the high we all
get from the boardriding lifestyle and keeping its crew stoked and participating. “Stay High!”
is not just a call out for Quiksilver. It’s a motto for the crews to keep the high in the fields of
design, creativity and state of mind. A way to express the deep passion of the company for
boardriding and claim its unique approach to life that can be defined as Fun First.
This short film embodies the Stay High! campaign and philosophy featuring Quiksilver’s
greatest team riders such as Mikey Wright, Tom Carroll, Travis Rice, Candide Thovex, Jeremy
Flores and many more.

Life’s better in boardshorts

At Billabong we are not spectators of our lives but rather authors, practicing what we preach. Surf every wave like it’s your last; savor those last moments of sunlight at the end of the day; and don’t ever stop living life to the fullest.

Mavs!

A thunderous couple of sessions at Mavericks from last week. The Eddie is going to be on later in Hawaii and word is the Mavs event is being called on for Friday… So two more blasts of live big wave insanity to look forward too.

Imogen's best bits …

So Imogen has come and gone leaving a trail of goose chasers and fun finders in its path. While a lot of people headed of the most un-secret of secret spots in the Atlantic a few thrill seekers used their imaginations to make the most of the storm. Here are the best bits.

Down in Perranporth Ben Skinner, Josh Ward and friends ride the river wave. It only breaks on huge swells and high tides which funnel surges up between the banks.

Back in Bude those naughty boys (got told off last time) couldn’t help themselves and just had to take advantage of the swell to shoot the bridge in town.

Just like Pipe?

When Joan Duru commentated that he had ‘..been surfing a lot of waves like this at Quemao.. ” after getting through his that at perfect Pipe 99% of the worlds population went ‘Huh?” Those European surfers and travellers in the know had a quick ‘lol’ the reason, well this…

El Quemao, often referred to as La Santa Pipe, is a beast of a wave that holds very large Atlantic swells and slabs over shallow lava with an urchin infested end section. But the big question is “How does it compare to the real Pipe?” Well the locals hold a invitation comp called Qeamao Class there every year and this year scored great waves. So with Pipe going all time and Quemao going a solid 8 out of 10 you can judge for yourself.
