When Hawaiian charger Tyler Newton checked the South Pacific swell charts and saw a massive swell heading towards Teahupo’o, one of his favourite waves, he hoped on the next plane to Tahiti. What ensued was a couple of days of near perfection at one of the world’s best barrels. Other surfers, like Raimana Van Bastolaer, Matahi Drollet, Mihimana Braya, and Makai McNamara, caught some truly memorable waves. Relieve one of the best sessions of the year (so far) at Tahiti’s Teahupo’o.

So the saying goes, no pain, no gain. With that in mind, let's doff our hats and salute those hell men and women who push the limits of surfing. Because without them throwing themselves over some serious ledges we wouldn't be pushing the boundaries of surfing. We also wouldn't have this edit, and let's be honest, there's something very primeval about watching someone getting a tad very ouchy.
