2020 English Adaptive Open to be held at The Wave

In a first for Surfing England and The Wave the 2020 English Adaptive open will be held in Bristol.

The 4th English Adaptive Open, an event which has grown exponentially over the last four years and is well recognised by International Athletes.

Nick Hounsfield, founder of The Wave shares the stoke; “Ever since I started to think about creating The Wave, I knew that it had to be truly accessible for all. We designed the place with adaptive surfing at the very core what we want to deliver. I’ve been working with the Adaptive Surfing Community for the last 5 years, and having the 2020 English Adaptive Surfing Championships at The Wave will literally be a dream come true – both for me but also for all our staff and supporters who have helped build my vision for The Wave. We can’t wait to host this amazing event!”

Ben Powis, Ops Director at Surfing England says “Adaptive surfing continues to go from strength to strength, with the Team England Adaptive crew home to some of the world’s best, and we’re stoked to be showcasing their talent in the world’s first ever Adaptive Champs to be run on Wavegarden Cove technology with our awesome partners at The Wave.”

Team England Adaptive Manager Andy Joyce states “it’s such fantastic news that the event is going ahead after so many others have been put on hold. On behalf of the surfers and support team I’d like to thank The Wave for supporting adaptive development and creating this opportunity to develop our social and community bonds.”

This is a ground-breaking event that will showcase homegrown and international talent. Every surfer that will travel to the event will have their own story, which shapes the event to make it one of the most unique and exciting in the World. This is an incredible marker for English Surfing.

History will be made on Saturday 3rd October as we host the first English Adaptive Surfing competition on an artificial wave – see you there.

East Coast Low – CAPE COVID, Part 2

As they say, leave the best till last. After two days of the East Coast getting battered by yet another East Coast low pressure system the surf went down from a peak of 10 meters plus (30 feet) to a chunky 8 to 12 feet.(3/4 meters) This day really showed who was the boss as there were victims a plenty.

The Cape loves a tow swell and this one didn’t disappoint. Still at eight feet the paddle option is very doable if you’re good. But when the big ones come through the tow option is best as you will see here. Stand out surfer was Max McGuigan on his backhand getting more ad more confident every time he surfs out there. Then there was the usual pack showing us all how its done like Kirk Flintoff, Hayden Blair, Lucas Street & Kipp Caddy.

There was long time Cape/Ours legends Wayne Cleveland & Eddie “The Predator” Blackwell also taking on some of the bigger bombs.

All up this was an all time day! Sea for yourself!

2020 RIP CURL EUROPEAN GROMSEARCH: THE BEST EUROPEAN BEST GROMS WILL BATTLE IT OUT VIA VIDEO SUBMISSIONS TO WIN A SPOT FOR THE FINAL AT “THE WAVE” IN BRISTOL!

This year’s qualifying series for the RipCurl Grom Search have gone digital, but the comp will have a real final in real waves at The Wave in Bristol, UK!

Rip Curl has decided to run the Rip Curl GromSearch 2020 with all the participants entering by summiting the videos of their 2 best waves, starting August 21st and closing on September 15th via this link: GROM SEARCH

The best European judges are already getting ready for your best moves and style. One boy and one girl under 16 years old from the following countries, UK, Portugal, France and Spain, and “Other Euro Countries” will win their ticket to the Euro Final at The Wave in Bristol. This will be the first European Grom event in a wave pool ever – an historic final, which you have a chance to be a part of!

Rip Curl will also award 4 wildcards for 2 boys and 2 girls in the categories “Deepest Barrel” presented by SMITH and “Biggest Air” presented by FCS! On top of that, the wildcard winners will have the opportunity to receive a one-year sponsorship with Smith and FCS!

The European Final at The Wave will take place on October 2nd, 2020* where the 14 qualified Groms will battle to earn 2 tickets to the International final at Bells Beach in April 2021*.
