Environmental campaigners Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) are organising a protest to call for an immediate end to sewage dumping at a popular Southwick swimming spot after Southern Water has been dumping untreated wastewater for nearly 200 hours since Christmas.

SAS are asking protestors to gather for the demo at 1200 on Saturday 13th January at the outfall just east of the Kingston Beach car park.

“The Combined Sewer Outfall at The Green, Southwick discharges into the Adur estuary near to the popular Kingston Beach which is used by swimmers all year round, especially in the rougher winter months.

“We estimate that enough untreated sewage to fill over 3 Olympic swimming pools has been discharged since Christmas and it is putting people’s health at risk. Yet there have been no warnings posted by Adur Council, Southern Water or the Environment Agency.

” We are calling for:
1. Southern Water to immediately end the sewage dumping
2. Adur District Council and the Environment Agency to post warnings to ‘bathe at own risk’
3. The Environment Agency to reveal if it has been informed that the wastewater infrastructure is faulty (a requirement of the Environmental Permit) and what enforcement action it is taking.
4. Adur District Council to immediately start the application process to make Kingston Beach an official designated bathing beach.
We advise all swimmers, surfers and canoeists to bathe with caution in the Adur estuary, download our Safer Seas and River Service app and use it to report sickness, email their MP and Southern Water’s CEO to protest.

Creating a surf crew was what I’ve always wanted to do, because surfing is always better with mates. It’s even sweeter when everyone is like minded and wants to create shit that people will actually sit down for 30 minutes and watch. There’s no judgement for being ourselves just like the old days of Cluster everyone had their own unique style and character which is fuckin’ cool!

I feel like in skating has been a big influence while creating this film. There has always been groups of skaters but in surfing it hasn't been as much of a thing. I think surfing needs that. So here we are.

That’s why skateboarding is way cooler. In this film we’re trying to include everyone, because surfing should be fun, unlike how some people go about it.

Thanks to a social media post, I connected with Ian Fountain and some of the locals in Brittany, France for a big winter storm. Brittany is the largest French peninsula in the NW of France and one of the hardest coasts to score, due to it’s massive tides, translating to short surf windows. Combine that with nearly 2000 miles of coastline, that’s a tough shoe to polish. So why come here?
By now I hope you have a gist for my taste in waves and surf trips. And I definitely enjoy the going off the beaten path, especially when it comes to surf trips. I had always gone to South west France, so with interesting charts lighting up the northI thought what would it take to score waves in Brittany? - @dylangraves

100 foot wave has won a second Emmy. The TV series featuring the stories behind the tow surfing at Nazare Outstanding Cinematography For A Nonfiction Program – 2023 to go with its  ‘Outstanding Cinematography For A Nonfiction Program – 2022”

The episode told the story of the ramifications of the huge 2017 swell  “one pro sets a new world record, Andrew Cotton suffers a devastating wipeout. In 2019, after rallying through a back-to-back concussion and broken foot, Garrett struggles with determining whether he’s mentally ready to get back in the water.”
Antoine Chicoye, Mikey Corker, Vincent Kardasik, Alexandre Lesbats, Chris Smith, Laurent Pujol, João Vidinha, Michael Darrigade all picked the well deserved awards.
