Iconic Tube Riding Contest on High Alert
The Rip Curl Cup Padang Padang has been put on high alert for a potential run this coming Wednesday the 6th of August. The Rip Curl Cup Padang only runs when the swell delivers. It is Indonesia’s longest running and most prestigious international surfing competition, first held in 2004. Padang Padang is one of the Bukit’s most renowned waves, producing world class barrels over razor sharp reef.
A promising large SSW groundswell is set to arrive Tuesday afternoon, peaking Wednesday morning. With a dropping tide from 7:30am onwards, it’s looking likely that we will have epic conditions with clean offshore winds all day Wednesday to showcase some of Indonesia and the world’s best tube riders.
The heat draw features some exciting match ups that aren’t to be missed. Round 1 Heat 3 will see former event finalist Mason Ho, up against Californian Tosh Tudor, Mentawai’s Dylan Wilcoxen, and local boy Westen Hirst. With Wilcoxen fresh of his win at the Nias Pro, and Hirst currently sitting as the No. 1 ranked Indonesian surfer on the QS, the next generation of Indonesian surfing will be going head to head with two highly accomplished international tube riders.
