Congrats to the winner of the Carve x @sharpsbrewery Offshore photo comp @phillboyd_outwest "This was shot at the start of last winter. It was the first of the proper winter swells to reach us in North Wales around mid-December. It was a good-sized swell, and it had been blowing hard onshore for a few days previous. Overnight the wind was forecast to switch offshore. The tides were early, and the weather was good. I arrived around sunrise, most of the locals had sought out more sheltered spots, but the Davies-Hughes brothers were in. This break is a fast, heavy wave even on the smaller days, but this day it was the biggest I had ever seen it surfed. I couldn’t believe anyone was even in, and thankfully they were as the conditions from my point of view were perfect. The boys struggled to catch many waves early on in the strong winds, but after dodging many of the closeout bombs, Eilir was lined up to take the wave in picture cheered on by younger brother Urien. I love everything about this picture and the session as a whole, the early morning light, strong offshores, seriously good-sized swell and those crazy brothers!" The full lineup of the finalists are in the latest issue. Thanks everyone for sending shots in from around the UK and Ireland. They were epic!
