Well, well, well…

Paris 2024 Olympic organisers have announced the 2024 Olympic surfing comp will take place in Tahiti – subject to validation from the International Olympic Committee – at Chopes!

Tahiti has been chosen in preference to Hossegor, which would have been a good venue if it was held in Autumn and their other beaches.

It is a 22-hour fight from Paris, so no tussore what the IOC will make off it.. but…

“It’s an extremely pleasant surprise and recognition for our history that will restore honour to Polynesia, where surfing began,” said Lionel Teihotu, the president of Tahiti’s surfing federation.

Paris 2024’s organisers thanked the other candidate cities – Biarritz, Lacanau, Les Landes and La Torche – for their “strong nominations”.

To be honest we are fairly luke warm on the idea of surfing in the Olympics, good on anyone that qualifies, but two foot slop in Japan could be a massive let down, but Chopes… Maybe… Just maybe…
