“I’ve always worked construction, but now I work for the County of Maui water supply. Whenever there is waves Deep West Maui Side, I surf. If there’s no waves on this side then we do something else. Fishing, diving, doing chores haha. I don’t travel to get waves. West side is family grounds. This is where we’re from. We just hold em down as best as we can.
The board was shaped for my uncle back in the mid 70’s by Jimmy Lewis. It’s a 8’2 Single fin. He got into a bad motorcycle accident and ended up selling the board. It got traded around and it ended coming back full circle. Psyched it’s still in the family. I call the board big jimmy or the purple people eater.” – Kalei Kauhane
