With just over one week to go before the 9th Jesus Longboard Classic in Polzeath, North Cornwall, entries are flooding in, and expectations are high after the disappointment of cancelling the event last year due to no surf, then storm surf, for a fantastic weekend of surfing. The event will be held at its traditional venue over the weekend of 15th – 16th October, using the ‘Tubestation’ as its contest base.

It’s a great contest for both those who have not entered a competition before and those seasoned contest surfers. The Jesus Longboard Classic has a well deserved reputation for its friendly atmosphere and relaxed vibe, as well as the later rounds being highly competitive.

This event follows on from the 24th Jesus Surf Classic held at Croyde over the weekend of 10th – 11th September, which attracted around 150 entries from many of the UK’s top surfers. Organisers Christian Surfers UK are very pleased to be continuing their long term sponsorship partners with ‘Tubestation’, ‘Nineplus’ ‘Finisterre’, and new supporters Zeaglass. Beagle Create will be documenting the weekend through videography meaning all is set for a great weekend of action in, and out of the water. They are a visual innovation company producing film, animation and holographic content, based in London, Cornwall and California.

We are also pleased to be partnering with Surfers Against Sewage with regards to reusable cups, doing our bit to reduce waste, and look forward to welcoming them to the event as well.

Contest Director Phil Williams, head of Christian Surfers UK said that “After the disappointment of having to postpone last year’s event we are really excited to put all our efforts into make this weekend a fantastic time for all involved. As with ‘The Jesus’, there’ll be some great hospitality for the competitors, as well as a prize fund of over £1,000, with first place in the Open event winning £250″. Looking forward to see if last 2014’s Men’s and Women’s Open winner Connor Griffiths and Emily Currie can retain their titles.”

Christian Surfers UK are very grateful to the key sponsors and also to Cornwall Council and the local community for their assistance. Combining the resources of these groups should make for a top class competition.

We are also very pleased that although not forming part of their contest series, the event is being endorsed by the British Longboard Union (BLU).
