Al Merrick Fred Stubble

Specifications:

6’0″ x 19 1/2″ x 2 1/2″

(Volume 31.1 L)

Shaper: Al Merrick

The Fred Stubble came about when rising WQS ripper Connor Coffin requested a variation of the Fred Rubble (2011 SIMA Board of the year) that would provide a little more squirt in gutless waves. With less rocker, more width and an accentuation of the double concave (sitting between a single entry concave and vee through the fins, as per the Rubble), the Fred Stubble is a proper jet machine, gliding over whitewater and paddling like a board several inches longer – while holding a rail through flat spots and turning tight in the pocket.

Al Merrick Neck Beard

Specifications:

5’7″ x 19 1/2″ x 2 3/8″

Shaper: Al Merrick

RRP: £615

This is the board that won the SIMA surfboard of the year for 2012. A truly remarkable all round surfboard from the Channel Island team. After a year of tinkering with different concepts, Dane Reynolds launched the Neck Beard, his favourite free-surf board. With light single concave and vee out the back, this board is faster down the line, has increased rail-to-rail transition, and is more stable when landing airs. Super user-friendly, this is the board Dane grabs when its 1-foot to head high.

Al Merrick Fred Rubble 5 fin

Specifications:

5’11” x 19″ x 2 5/16″

Shaper: Al Merrick

RRP: £599

The Fred Rubble has a low entry rocker and a wide outline, and it sits somewhere inbetween the Proton and the Dumpster Diver models. Primarily it was built for waves from waist-high to overhead and a half… but that was with the original squash tail. Now with a round tail and a five fin option, the Fred Rubble 5 fin round tail is certain to tackle some juicier waves as well as still performing when the swell drops. Noteably Kelly Slater rode this as his board of choice at Pipeline in 2012, and it’s pretty safe to say that was well overhead!

Al Merrick New Flyer

Specifications:

5’8″ x 19 1/8″ x 2 5/16″

(Volume 26.4 L)

Shaper: Al Merrick

RRP: £585

The original Flyer was a small wave revelation. The New Flyer comes in a smaller, wider package, creating a shorter rail-line whilst maintaining the same volume. The forgiving two-stage rocker remains with the addition of a spiral vee – starting in front of the fins to allow for rail-to-rail quickness. The signature Merrick hip (essentially a relaxed bump situated just above the front fins) provides a pivot point for tight arcs. All this adds up to a lively small wave board – particularly suited to choppy/mushy conditions where quick changes of direction are the order of the day. The New Flyer is more a board for surfers who like to stay busy on the waves; not really geared to drawn out turns and gliding through flat sections.

Al Merrick Average Joe

Specifications:

5’3″ x 20 7/8″ x 2 3/8″

(Volume 29.6 L)

Shaper: Al Merrick

RRP: £585

The Average Joe, as the name suggests, is geared towards the everyday surfer as opposed to the Kelly Slaters and Dane Reynolds of this world. A great board for a longboard or mini-mal rider looking to buy their first shortboard … or a more experienced surfer looking to add a groveller to their quiver. Essentially the Average Joe is a very user-friendly/easy shortboard – not to be confused with a fish or hybrid. A slight single concave for the first 1/3 to deepening concave vee throughout. It can be surfed off the rail or tail. Al Merrick’s signature hip tail template provides extra drive while full rails keep volume high and reduce the risk of bogging. Ride the Average Joe 2-8″ shorter than your height depending on ability. FCS AM fins included

Al Merrick Semi Pro 12

Specifications:

6’1″ x 19 1/8″ x 2 3/8″

Shaper: Al Merrick

RRP: £599

Fine-tuned during the course of Kelly’s 2011 campaign, the Semi-Pro 12 comes from Kelly’s wider forward outline which incorporates a 12″ nose. The main purpose of this design change was to allow for more volume which translates to easier paddling and wave catching while still accommodating a short rail for Kelly’s signature arcs … surf it as a thruster a quad or team it up with a Knubster as Kelly does. One of our fastest selling models in the store an amazing all rounder. This board will absolutely fly in anything from waist high to well-overhead waves.

Pukas Sixtniner

Specifications:

6’2″ x 21 1/4″ x 2 3/4″

(Volume 39.36 L)

Shaper: Axel Lorentz.

The Original SixtyNiner combines the front part of a retro fish with the tail of a semi-gun, with an extra kick in the rocker which is balanced out perfectly with a single concave and a very slight vee through the tail making it very fast yet enabling super smooth and tight turns, combine this with its incredible paddling and you have a real winning combination … another amazing board from the Basque. FCS 2 thruster set included.

Pukas El Loco

Shaper: Axel Lorentz.

The El Loco is a fun and functional design from Axel Lorentz. He’s added more volume to a wider outlined board to make a board that’s more than just an easy paddler and wave catcher. A bigger curve in the rocker and its refined bottom (slight concave to vee double out the tail) makes it really alive and reactive in modern rail to rail surfing.
The El Loco will work really well in small to medium waves and will suit all levels of surfer depending on the size of the board.

JS Blak Box 2

Specifications:

5’10” x 19 3/4″x 2 3/8″

(Volume 28.7 L)

Fins: 5 Fin FCS

Shaper: Jason Stevenson

The Blak Box offers a fuller, curvy outline with a higher and more defined hip pulled from the fins into a nice straight directional tail curve through to the wider tail pod. JS has spent a lot of time on this model combining old school outlines with the latest bottom curves showcasing plenty of detail. You will find this board fast in flat sections because extra foam has been left under your chest and front foot. Ride this board 3-4″ shorter than normal. The Blak Box is one of the best ever selling models in the range.

JS Monsta 3

Specifications:

5’11” x 18 3/4″ x 2 5/16″

(Volume 25.9 L)

Shaper: Jason Stevenson

The Monsta 3 is the third refinement of Joel Parkinson’s favourite high performance machine. Slotting into the huge gap between perfection and slop, the Monsta has been building momentum since its release in 2010, undergoing a series of loving tweaks and adjustments to arrive at the Monsta 3. Medium rails allow performance turns without being too ‘catchy’ in choppy or soft sections. a medium/low entry rocker creates speed and drive in small to average conditions, while a medium exit rocker provides a good balance between drive and release through the tail. The Monsta 3 works best in average to good waves from 1.5 to 6 foot.

JS Show Pony

Specifications:

5’4 x 20 7/8″ x 2 1/2″

(Volume 30.8 L)

Fins: 5 Fin FCS

Shaper: Jason Stevenson

New for 2014, the Show Pony is a progression from the hugely popular Pier Pony – A board that’s all about small wave good times. With volume redistributed towards the nose and the vee bottom giving way to a single to double concave, The Show Pony provides more glide and increased paddle power, with the resulting loss of rail-to-rail control offset by a thinner diamond tail. The best showground for the Show Pony is beachbreaks between the 1-3ft range. This is a fast yet maneouvrable groveller that will allow you to make the most out of slack summer swells.

JS Evolution

Specifications:

6’0″ x 19 3/8″ x 2 3/8″

(Volume 28.6 L)

Shaper: Jason Stevenson

JS has taken the Revolution and pulled it in and thinned it out to allow it to handle the larger conditions, yet still keep the much loved Revolution feel. The Evolution sits right at the high performance end of the JS X-Series surfboards. Featuring a flat rocker with a subtle single to double concave to offer heaps of speed and lift with minimal resistance. The rounded pin is added to the Evolution so you can harness and utilise all your speed through turns… unlike many small wave boards.

JS Dropped Swallow

Specifications:

5’7″ x 20 1/8″ x 2 1/2″

(Volume 29.6 L)

Shaper: Jason Stevenson

The Dropped Swallow is best suited for knee to head high waves, and will have you flying across any section in the 2-3 foot range. The sawn off effect of the tail offers all the drive and leverage of a square tail but still allowing positive rail to rail transition thanks to the semi swallow. Basically, the best of both tail shapes! Slight Vee in entry into slight double concave to deep double concave out the tail. This creates speed and lift, and aids well in rail to rails transitions. The carbon is all about performance providing the perfect balance of flex and strength through very precise positioning and quantity of carbon strands.

JS LowDown

Specifications:

5’11” x 18 5/8″ x 2 1/4″

(Volume 25.6 L)

Fins: 3 Fin FCS

Shaper: Jason Stevenson

The JS Lowdown was developed towards the end of 2013 by JS and Julian Wilson. The idea was to create a performance shortboard that performs in below par waves. The key element to the Lowdown is the volume; stripped from the tail and around the fins to increase back foot sensitivity, and pushed towards the front of the board to increase acceleration. A single concave in the nose of the board to create lift and speed, a double concave in front of the fins to direct water through turns and increase drive and maneouverability. Slightly softer and fuller rails allow you to maintain speed through turns without catching.
