In glassy 2-4ft surf, Bude surfer, 2017 UKPSA Pro Surf Tour Champion Reubyn Ash wins Welsh Pro, presented by Gower College Swansea. The event, postponed from Saturday due to Storm Callum, provided classic Rest Bay surf for the fourth event on the UKPSA Pro Surf Tour 2018. Finishing second was European Champion Jay Quinn, who also won the first event on the tour back in May, The Surfaced Pro. Third went to Luke Dillon, past tour champion and in fourth place was Joss Ash.
This was also event 3 of the Nerf Clash of the Groms Series, which aims to encourage the development of junior surfers across the UK. In the Under 18 Boys division, Seth Morris from Pembrokeshire defeated the top UK juniors. The Under 18 Girls was taken out by 11 year old Lauren Sandland. The Under 16 Boys was won by Noah Capps and Season Surf Under 16 Girls champion was Swansea’s Alys Barton.
Dave Reed, Director of UKPSA, said: “I would like to thank Gower College Swansea for their support. This is the only junior event on the tour in Wales and it will help encourage the development of the sport at all levels. I would also like to thank the other sponsors – Nerf, Korev, Boardmasters Foundation, Fistral Beach and Season Surf – who make this tour possible.”
