EARF – Ireland & Europe

EARF – Ireland & Europe

Mikey had just stopped competing, starting to put his time into free surfing again so we decided to do a couple of smaller projects first before working on something bigger. At this time Rolo was filming for his Octo part and Kael had just finished shooting his Film ‘Idiot Box’. After spending a full winter in Aus due to travel restrictions, Quiksilver had planned a snow trip for September in the Swiss alps. Mikey rolo, Kael and took the opportunity to spend some time in Europe and make a video out of the trip, regardless of the quality of waves we got. We scored some fun waves here and there but the one session we got in Ireland topped off the whole trip. Mikey went full Lizard brain.

Ollie O’Flaherty and crew had an amazing run of swell this Christmas, unusually quiet, whilst people were busy with last minute shopping, they scored relatively empty waves that would normally have attracted people from abroad and all over Ireland. 🙌 🙌 🙌 🙌

I left the sea almost at night, with a feeling of complete happiness. After all I had waited a year for that moment, and the long-awaited day had come to an end and everything fell into place, I was sure I had managed to shoot good waves and great surfing. A rain came to wash my soul and put a dash of adrenaline on my way back – Diego Balestro @diegobalestro_

The start of the 2020–21 big wave season has been nothing if not historic. Especially in Ireland, where Conor Maguire nabbed what many are calling the biggest wave ever surfed at Ireland’s premiere – and most terrifying – wave, Mullaghmore. Here’s a look back at filmmaker Mikey Corker’s award-winning 2018 docu-series Made In Ireland, which traces surfing’s roots in what was once considered the unlikeliest of surf destinations.
