Performance Board Guide 2012

SX5
SPECIFICATIONS: 5’10″ x 18 3/4″ x 2 1/4″
SHAPER: John Purton
This board will work in waist height beach breaks to head and a half high reef breaks and still maintaining its high performance characteristics. The SX5 incorporates a fuller plan shape, performance board characteristics, concaves and rail shapes, with a relaxed rocker and a different bottom contour in the front third of the board. This allows the board to catch waves easily and respond to acute turns making the board feel narrower than it actually is whilst maintaining full speed. 5 fin setup for maximum versatility. Incorporates JP Syncro bottom curve.
TX5
SPECIFICATIONS: 5’10″ x 20 3/4″ x 2 1/2″
SHAPER: John Purton
The TX5 was based on our T4 model which has been a best seller for more than several years. The wide point is now further back, but still slightly forward of centre. We also adjusted the tail plan shape to allow more control when setup as a thruster. This board incorporates all the best aspects of the T4 model but with the updated plan shape to allow the board to be more versatile as a 5 fin setup. 5 fin setup for maximum versatility.
RX5
SPECIFICATIONS: 6’0″ x 20 1/2″ x 2 1/2″
SHAPER: John Purton
The RX5 incorporates the same concept as the SX model but a wider plan shape more akin to original 80s thruster. A bump wing allows a parallel plan/rail line for more projection, and a pivot point for better rail to rail transition. Fin positions have been changed to maintain high performance. Ideal for surfers looking for something with a bit of float, manoeuvrability and speed in all conditions, heavier surfers in weaker surf but also versatile enough to handle bigger, more powerful waves. Or for the lightweight guys instead of fish/longer boards (5’2″ to 5’10″). 5 fin setup for maximum versatility.
5’8″ Caramel Slice
SPECIFICATIONS: 55’8″ x 19 1/4″ x 2 5/16″
SHAPER: Chops
The round tail and subtle wing (almost hip) give this model less area through the back 3rd and the board has more hold and bite through
critical, steep sections. The single to double concave working with the wing and vee running off the tail gives this model good release and fantastic response. Designed as a 5 fin quiver killer. A good all-rounder.
6’1″ Summer Toy 2
SPECIFICATIONS: 6’1″ x 20 1/4″ x 2 7/16″
SHAPER: Chops
Perfect for summer. This performance 5 fin fish is shaped with a deep single concave under the chest into a well defined vee in front of and running through the fins and off the tail. It also has a littler more tail rocker than the original. Plenty of volume in the plan shape, especially the forward third, gets you through any weaker flatter sections and the extra tail rocker with the wing wand. The swallow tail has amazing hold through powerful turns and steeper sections. Come on summer the toys are ready. Designed as a 5 fin quiver killer.
5’8″ Disco
SPECIFICATIONS:5’8″ x 19″ x 2 5/16″
SHAPER: Chops
A performance shortboard for modern high performance surfing The Disco excels in smaller weaker surf but does hold and perform in bigger and better waves. Shaped with a shallow single concave under the chest into a well defined double concave through the fins and fading off the tail. Designed as a thruster and should be shaped at least 2″ shorter than your standard shortboard A great groveller to head high a pumping.
The Wanda
SPECIFICATIONS: 5’9″ x 20″ x 2 3/8″
SHAPER: Phil Hodge
The fish called ‘Wanda’. Wanda is Quiver’s brand new May 2012 summer release and the ultimate high performance fish. She is a nippy little number and very easy on the eye. He is short and flat, has a refined body and foiled rails for performing in the smallest of waves. Wanda is ideal for those small summer swells.
The Spud
SPECIFICATIONS: 6’1″ x 20 1/4″ x 2 7/16″
SHAPER: Phil Hodge
The Spud is Quivers latest release for May 2012 and is our short, wide, stubby little number that can be ridden by surfers of all abilities and is ideal in surf 4ft and under. With a double concave all the way through, Spud is an easy paddler and can get you onto those waves earlier than a lot of boys in the field.
The Dirty Truck
SPECIFICATIONS:5’8″ x 19″ x 2 5/16″
SHAPER: Phil Hodge
With the Dirty Truck, you have the ease of paddling, control and speed, of a fish with the fast loose rail surfing of a shortboard. The future of progressive surfing design. Comes with a wide square tail or pulled in swallow with continuous rockers and single concave throughout. The DT is for intermediate to advanced surfers and should be ridden shorter than your standard performance shortboard to use it to its full potential.
The BumbleBart
SPECIFICATIONS:5’8″ x 19″ x 2 5/16″
SHAPER: Phil Hodge
Forward wide point with a stub nose and pulled in round pin tail means you get the rail feel of a good wave board but with the stability and paddle power of a fish. It’s a super fun board that is just as comfortable in one foot junk as it is in six foot barrels! Deep single to double through the fins with slight vee off the tail gives you concentrated speed through the fins with great hold on deep bottom turns and carves.
The Hobbit
SPECIFICATIONS:5’8″ x 19″ x 2 5/16″
SHAPER: Phil Hodge
The Hobbit was brought out of the burrows at the end of 2011 and is designed for the progressive surfer that is looking for a small wave board to be taken out in small to medium sized surf. The rocker is relatively flat giving the board greater momentum when the swell size is under 4ft and on the weaker side.
Simon Anderson XFC – Ultraflx
SPECIFICATIONS: 6’0″, 6’1″, 6’2″ and 6’3″. (Model featured is 6’2″)
SHAPER: Simon Anderson
The XFC is the fastest board in Simon’s range. Featuring low soft rails and a single to double concave for deep carving turns, the 2012 XFC model retains a TSR rocker, a flatter belly compared to the previous rocker, with the same overall tail and nose lift. Made from Surftech’s New Ultraflx technology, with a waterproof core to keep you surfing longer.
The Corblimey
SPECIFICATIONS: From 5’4″ to 6’4″
SHAPER: Luke Hart
No pumping, just fluid lines and an effortless surf, great in most conditions for most surfers. Throw it around or go straight down the line. You surf for the feeling not for the look. It is an odd looking board but it really does the job. With a wider nose template and outline, and added volume on the deck and rails, the Corblimey paddles like a mal and has great stability once up on your feet. Slightly lower nose rocker to increase speed and drive.
The Jeffrey
SPECIFICATIONS: From 5’6″ to 6’6″
SHAPER: Luke Hart
The new school has arrived. Your all round board for progression. Foam and width combined to make progressive surfing easier for everyone and anyone who wants to surf like a pro. Great for airs, rotations fins out turns and general next level shizzle. It has a bit of everything thrown in: it’s a great paddler, a super fast and flowing board that always makes the most out of the conditions.
The Stoker
SPECIFICATIONS: From 5’3″ to 6’6″
SHAPER: Luke Hart
Easy to ride, care free surfing craft that’s fun for everyone, paddles well, super fast down the line and great for any level of surfing depending on who rides it. The Stoker, a rework on design from Stokesys first ever pro model. A super easy to surf and fun board for total freesurfing expression. Whether you want to throw airs, rotations or whack the fins out, this is the ultimate tool for pure fun and stoke. They are addictive little things! Order 4-6 inches shorter than your standard shortboard.
MINIZERO
SPECIFICATIONS: 5’7″ x 18 3/4″ x 2 1/4″
SHAPER: Luke Young
Small to medium wave
high performance. Allround performer in weak to powerfull waves up to 5-6ft. shortened/widened shortboard outline with lower entry rocker.
Inchpincher
SPECIFICATIONS: 5’8″ x 18 3/4″ x 2 1/4″
SHAPER: Luke Young
Small wave performer,
wider overall template,
taking elements from both
the Robot and Minizero for
fun in weak surf.
Reeper
SPECIFICATIONS: 5’9″ x 18 1/8″ x 2″
SHAPER: Carl Welton
The Reeper can be used in most conditions so is a perfect all rounder! A light single concave runs through the bottom to a deeper concave running between the fins. The key to this shape is it feels so good on its rails, and it won’t let you down on those heavy ledgey days, yet still feels loose and responsive on those fun summer days. It has a higher entry rocker which helps it stop feeling less catchy through those late re-entries but not too aggressive off the tail to help deal with those fat sections. Ride one or two inches longer than you are tall.
Mustang
SPECIFICATIONS: 5’8″ x 19 1/2″ x 2 3/8″
SHAPER: Carl Welton
The Mustang is for knee to over head waves. It’s a short stocky board (the nose and tail are pretty much the same width) with the entry rocker making it very easy to catch waves. The tail is not much wider than your standard short board which makes the Mustang feel super loose in small hollow waves. The bottom shape runs from a light single to a deeper single between the fins to produce drive in smaller surf conditions. Ruebyn Ash used the Mustang in a lot of the footage in the Inner Section movie when surfing in the UK and Europe. Ride 4 or 5 inches shorter than you are tall.
Blue Fin
SPECIFICATIONS:6’2″ x 19 1/2″ x 2 7/16″
SHAPER: Carl Welton
The Blue Fin has a natural fast planing action due to its low entry rocker which enables you to flow through those fatter sections (super good for those weak on shore summer swells!) It still has a nice performace out of the tail to enable you to link up those nice turns. The Blue Fin is predominatley used as a thruster set up. Great for older guys who still like to throw their boards around without having to work the board too hard. The Blue Fin also works well as a good step up board for people looking for more performance out of their surfing without having to struggle.
5’6″ Fat Cat
SPECIFICATIONS: 5’6″ x 21″ x 2 1/16″
SHAPER: Bill Attlee
The ‘Fat Cat’ has a lot of planning area and with the single to double concave has heaps of drive to deal with our mushy summer waves. A flat rocker line helps it fly around slack sections and a curvy outline gives performance through turns. A concave deck makes it more comfortable and stable on take off and quicker heel and toe pressure reaction (as used on most skate board decks). The rail section and volume are the same as a conventional deck shape.
5’7″ Space Monkey
SPECIFICATIONS: 5’7″ x 19 1/2″ x 2 5/16″
SHAPER: Bill Attlee
Our ‘Space Monkey’ is a variation on the short wider style performance design; this one has a wider tail tip and slightly thinner rails with a single concave to double ‘V’ in the tail. The outline design refinements enhance the bottom shape and allow this board to be surfed as either a quad or thruster, it is a true convert.
5’7″ Vaccine
SPECIFICATIONS: 5’7″ x 18 1/2″ x 2 3/16″
SHAPER: Bill Attlee
The Vaccine is our high performance short board and like most shapers we have realised that shorter and maybe slightly wider boards are more efficient. We’ve made a lot of changes to this board over the winter to make it quicker, and more responsive, mainly tuning the rocker line, rail and bottom shapes. The curve section between the fins is slightly flatter, we’ve increased the ‘V’ in the tail tip and reduced rail volume slightly. These changes give the board more speed, release and grip.
SWEET POTATO FST
SPECIFICATIONS: 5’9″ x 18 1/8″ x 2″
SHAPER: Nev Hyman / Dan Mann
All-around 0 to 4ft fun machine. This baby paddles in super early, is ridiculously fast, generates all it’s own speed, rebounds with control off anything. Most amazingly, considering its very wide tail, it holds well through serious turns. Looks unridable. It’s anything but.
MICHEL BOUREZ PRO MODEL FST
SPECIFICATIONS: 6’0″ x 18 3/4″ x 2 9/16″
SHAPER: Nev Hyman
Michel Bourez’s signature model combines speed, power and a tight turning radius in a well balanced high performance shortboard. With a 4mm single concave, evenly distributed rocker from nose to tail and our Springer Technology, the MB harnesses aggression and unleashes that energy through intense on-rail maneuvers under or above the lip. If that is you, these boards are it! Ride the MB 1″ to 2″ shorter than your standard board.
ACTIVATOR FST
SPECIFICATIONS: 6’3″ x 20 5/8″ x 2 9/16″
SHAPER: Nev Hyman
The Activator is best described as the Dominator 2.0, built on the same platform but with a double-wing swallow tail configuration. This tail design takes some of the bulk out of the DM’s fat thumb tail allowing the board to turn even sharper, and includes the ‘pivot-point’ of the swallow tail design which many surfers enjoy. For those looking for slightly enhanced performance over the DM, the Activator will add some explosive performance to your ‘in the pocket’ surfing while still sailing over flat spots.
POTATONATOR RF
SPECIFICATIONS: 5’8″ x 20 1/2″ x 2 3/8″
SHAPER: Nev Hyman
Potato-Nator is the result of gene-splicing the Sweet Potato and the Dominator. With a longer rail line and less girth than the Potato, and a slightly pulled in nose similar to the Dominator, the Potato-Nator is meant to be ridden 4″-6″ longer than a Potato, and approx. 2″ shorter than the DM. Double concaves. The low entry rocker remains which makes paddling a breeze. Designed primarily for 2′-4′ surf, the Potato-Nator will hold its own in 3′-5′ as well. Fin placement is optimized to be ridden as a quad, but don’t be afraid to throw in a small, knubby trailer fin.
HELLRAZOR fst
SPECIFICATIONS: 6’1″ x 19 1/2″ x 2 5/16″
SHAPER: Nev Hyman
The Hell Razor is the ultimate high performance Hybrid replacing your normal short board (ride it approx. 1″ shorter). It retains high performance characteristics but with slightly flatter double concaves and more refined foil with a slightly narrower nose and tail. Plenty of width to make sure you don’t get hung up on those flat sections. While it’s virtually impossible to design a single board that will handle every type of wave between 3′ and 6′, the Hell Razor comes ‘razor’ close.
ADDVANCE RAPIDFIRE
SPECIFICATIONS: 6’6″ x 21 1/2″ x 3″
SHAPER: Nev Hyman
Developed in collaboration between Taj’s father Vance Burrow and Nev, the ADDvance offers extreme flotation in RapidFire technology. Combining the buoyancy of a longboard with a contemporary outline, the ADDvance Series opens up new possibilities for fun and performance. ADDvance your surfing! We’ve also added a 5/4/3 fin configuration for the coming year.
Dharma
SPECIFICATIONS: 6’2″ x 21 3/4″ x 2 1/2″
SHAPER: Matt Calvani
The Dharma blends modern surfing with the subtleties of riding a retro fish. Designed to catch a lot of waves, supplying endless amounts of fun to wave riders. Bevelled rail and concave deck allows volume for glide while maintaining sensitivity in rail-to-rail turns. This quad finned, butt-tail wave whip is suitable for clean lines, barrel riding, full rail turns and a perfect platform to take your aerial antics to the next level. 4+6oz volan deck patch top, 4oz bottom
Swee’ Pea
SPECIFICATIONS: 6’10” x 22 1/4″ x 3″
SHAPER: Matt Calvani
Matt Calvani wanted to continue the evolution with the Swee’ Pea so the middle and tail are the same width, but the nose is pulled considerably, with a deep single concave going out the rounded tail.
He maintained the thinned out tail and rail for increased sensitivity, and went with a slightly domed deck to get optimized floatation for surfers of varying builds and weight. The Swee’ Pea is ideal for intermediate to advanced surfers, looking for a small-wave board that will handle up to double overhead conditions.
Love Mussel
SPECIFICATIONS:5’11″ x 19 1/2″ x 2 3/8″
SHAPER: Ryan Hervé
“The Love Mussel” is a full curved outline pulling in towards a wide tail pod, (which provides extra surface area for those flat sections.) The bottom contour has a single into double concave, the double concave is shaped inside the single concave running through the fins and exiting off the tail with a slight vee, making this board very fast and responsive in small to medium size surf. When ordering go 3 inches shorter and 1 inch wider then your average short board. From 1 – 4 ft surf.
Scalpel
SPECIFICATIONS: 5’9″ x 20″ x 2 3/8″
SHAPER: Darren Handley
This is the newest model of the DHD. It’s called Scalpel! A five fin diamond tail flyer. That’s all we can tell you as it is top secret. For more info call the shop!
Eager Beaver
SPECIFICATIONS: 5’11″ x 18 3/4″ x 2″
SHAPER: Darren Handley
“Eager Beaver is the model that adds more life and fun to smaller, sloppier conditions. It features deep single concave into slight vee off the tail giving you more zing and the ability to change up your lines.” – Mick Fanning
The design focuses on a little more volume, a little more width and less rocker through the tail. A little tail vee through the tail behind the fins allows for that quick release and quick rail to rail transitions.
Sweet spot
SPECIFICATIONS: 5’10″ x 18 3/4″ x 2″
SHAPER: Darren Handley
“Sweet Spot is the model that I made with the idea of staying right in the pocket of the wave. I can jam it as hard as I want and know it will hold. The thing goes amazing.” – Mick Fanning
The plan shape hides foam under the chest and lets Mick ride it shorter than his usual performance board. Combining length, foam and tight pulled round tail creates a fast and dynamic combination in the pocket. It paddles into waves early and is packed full of speed.
puzzle piece
SPECIFICATIONS: 6’0″ x 18 5/8″ x 2 5/16″
SHAPER: Darren Handley
The Puzzle Piece is a fast, responsive and user friendly performance short board that combines a slightly thicker rail and hip rounded square for extra squirt off the tail. With a slightly wider outline and added foam under the chest, the Puzzle Piece is your perfect all – rounder for all conditions.
project 15
SPECIFICATIONS: 5’8″ x 19″ x 2 5/16″
SHAPER: Darren Handley
The Project 15 is my biggest selling board around the globe. It’s the ultimate small wave performer. Unique to this model is the amount of curve in the plan-shape combined with a straight rocker to generate plenty of speed and response. In the last 16” of the tail the curvy outline pulls in to a tight rounded square, which enables the board to turn tightly under pressure in the pocket. The extra width up front creates a stable and easy ride that allows the board to be surfed by all ages and ability. Perfect for small wave performance or as a forgiving option for progressing surfers.
Butterzone
SPECIFICATIONS: 5’6″ x 20″ x 2 5/8″
SHAPER: Christian Watch
Inspired by the mini simmons movement, but comes standard with a concave deck that makes you have a lower centre of gravity. This is the buttery zone where you’re almost sucked down to the deck of the board. The tail is a square block with a little bit of hip in the back of the foot outline. On the tip of the tail it’s shaped into a “squalo tail”, that makes the tail of the board a little thinner and adds some flavour to the end. The bottom is flat leading into a slight panel V out the back. Comes with a full resin tint and a gloss and polish finish.
6′ 8″ Heritage Wing Swallow Tail
SPECIFICATIONS: 6’8″ x 21″ x 2″
SHAPER: Jeff Townsley
Hailing from Circle One’s flagship and highly successful ‘Heritage’ range of epoxy surfboards. Good first time short board designed to excel in mediocre surf. Wide swallow tail means the board catches waves easily and the extra width maintains buoyancy as the board planes down the line.
6′ 2″ Heritage Diamond Tail
SPECIFICATIONS: 6’2″ x 20 1/2″ x 2 1/4″
SHAPER: Jeff Townsley
The Heritage 6′ 2″ little diamond is ideal for small to medium surf with a double concave through the tail and tapered rails generating speed and maneuverability and ability to power through chop. Full template makes for easier paddling and take-off. A great fun little board for all abilities.
5′ 10” Xpose 5-Fin Round Pin
SPECIFICATIONS: 5’10″ x 21″ x 2″
SHAPER: Jeff Townsley
The baby of the Xpose 5-fin range – new for 2012. Great shape for the smaller wave. Versatile fin configuration allows you to play with the set-up and choose what suits your style or conditions on the day. Perfect as a thruster for control in the turn or go for quad set-up for looser ride and down the line speed. Up to 5 configurations including Thruster and Quad.
FFT
SPECIFICATIONS: 5’11 x 18 7/8″ x 2 1/4″
SHAPER: Bruce McKee
The round tail and subtle wing (almost hip) give this model less area through the back 3rd and the board has more hold and bite through
critical, steep sections. The single to double concave working with the wing and vee running off the tail gives this model good release and fantastic response. Designed as a 5 fin quiver killer. A good all-rounder.
FB-2 CLX
SPECIFICATIONS: 6’6″ x 19 3/4″ x 2 1/2″
SHAPER: Tiki
Step up board or just an easy riding shortboard. The original Fatboy model was designed with extra width and thickness to get into big Mentawai barrels early but still hold a line. That concept still remains but we have found these to be a best seller with anyone who wants to ride a shortboard but isn’t up for the marathon effort involved. Thruster/quad setup. CLX – Carbon Lightweight Epoxy.
Prozac
SPECIFICATIONS: 5’8″ x 20 3/4″ x 2 1/2″
SHAPER: Tiki
The Prozac is a small wave solution to a Shortboard. A flattened entry rocker, wide centre and full volume make this board go in all but the smallest ripple. We’ve pulled the tail into a round pin with a couple of wings and put a deep single to double concave out through the fins; which are usuable in Quad or Thruster Buy this 3-5 inches shorter than your standard shortboard. Thruster/quad setup.
