SURF HISTORY EXHIBITION - GRIMSBY

'An art history of British surfing' opens at the Fishing Heritage Centre in Grimsby on the east coast on June 28 and runs through until September 7, 2008. On display is a wonderful collection of surfboards and memorabilia featuring some spectacular art spanning more than a century.
In addition, visitors will be able to test their skills on a genuine 1970s surfing pinball game which has just come into The Surfing Museum's collection.

CARVE have teamed up with the English Surfing Federation Surf School this summer to offer top class surf lessons at the ESF’s new surf school at the Carnmarth Hotel on Headland Road in Newquay. The CARVE surf lessons are available on a daily basis and use some of the top coaches in the industry to help surfers from the total novice to the keen competitor take their surfing to the next level. Each pupil will receive a well stuffed CARVE goodie bag. Lessons are a promotional price of £28 for two hours. Twelve youngsters from across Cornwall, Devon and Wales have been selected by the British Surfing Association for the British Junior Surfing Team for the 2008 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships which take place in the South West of France from the 24th May-1st June.
In the Girls team the new 16 year old English Women's Champion Holly Donnolly will lead Croyde's Karma Worthington and Kathleen Spears alongside Tassy Swallow from St Ives.

Harlyn Surf School is one of the first surf schools in the UK to be awarded an operators licence as part of the Surf School Licensing Scheme launched this year by North Cornwall District Council. The scheme recognises and promotes best practice and licences are only awarded to those operators who meet strict criteria. It also limits the amount of surf schools that can operate from a beach.
