Surf and Music in Paradise – hangout and surf with Sunset Sons in Bali

Sydney-based surf travel company, The Perfect Wave, launches a specially curated Surf Music in Paradise experience for summer 2017. Fusing waves, music and sunshine, The Perfect Wave has collaborated with Anglo-Aussie quartet Sunset Sons to offer fans a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the band play live in Bali, hang out, practice yoga and go surfing.

Taking place on 17th – 24th June 2017, this exclusive getaway includes one week half board accommodation at S Resort Hidden Valley, three live Sunset Sons shows, signed merchandise, daily shuttles to the beach and complimentary yoga sessions. Prices start at £849, for more information visit

Located only 10 minutes easy access to all of the peninsular surf breaks – Uluwatu, Padang Padang, Impossibles, Bingin and Dreamland – Sunset Sons will join guests for one week at the beautiful S Resort Hidden Valley. By day, travellers can head off with the band in search of the best waves, or swing the afternoon away in a beachside hammock. As the evenings draw in, Sunset Sons will be on hand to entertain guests with a series of intimate shows, two within the resort grounds at Lumbung Village and the poolside lawns, followed by an additional gig on the beautiful cliffs of Uluwatu.

Commenting on the upcoming gigs, Sunset Sons stated: “Well we’ve done it, we’ve finally landed the dream gig. So excited to be playing a few shows in Bali for the guys at The Perfect Wave down on the Bukit at S Resort in Hidden Valley. Can’t wait to see who rocks up…… Yewwwww.”

When guests are not surfing or rocking out at one of the gigs, S Resort is the perfect place to relax and unwind, boasting tranquil gardens, an onsite spa, four swimming pools and a dedicated yoga program.

The Surf Music In Paradise concept kicked off in 2015 with the very first exclusive surf music shows featuring Californian surfer/musician Donavon Frankenreiter. Since then, The Perfect Wave has welcomed a host of other exciting artists including Pete Murray, Tex Perkins (Cruel Sea) & Phil Reynolds (Grinspoon).

Surf Music In Paradise is the combined brainchild of The Perfect Wave’s CEO Jamie Gray and Global Marketing Manager – Ben Horvath. Ben said, “As a fan, attendee and sponsor of some of the early Big Day Out’s, Warped Tours and many other gigs when I was publishing Underground Surf Magazine, I know the super crowded, sweaty, over policed festival gigs these days aren’t really a fun option for over 25s. It’s where the idea of combining a love of music and surfing in a special week in paradise came from. The upcoming trip provides an incredible opportunity for fans to be part of an intimate performance.”

10-year-old surfer rides over great white. Dad captures the photo!

Check 10-year-old Eden Hasson setting up a snap off a great white on Tuesday. Eden was surfing Samurai Beach at Port Stephens just north of Newastle, Australia with his dad taking photos the this happened.

Dad Chris posted the photos saying

“I’m on the rocks taking photos of Eden. I see a big dark shape and about to call the small group in and Eden takes of on a left and smashes it to the beach.

“Just as he is taking off I see something out of the corner of my eye. I keep shooting and after he finishes and starts paddling out I zoom in on the second photo and see he’s just done a backhand snap on an 8 foot Great White Sharks head.

“Lucky he didn’t fall off. This photo is going straight to the pool room. Not everyday you get a photo surfing over a big white.”

Shredding the wave before (Below). Eden was back in the water next day. Groms gotta surf!

Skegness surfer goes viral as police and local media hunt him down.

Skegness surfer goes viral as police and local media hunt him down.

With respect to the locals it’s not often surfing in Skegness raises much of an eyebrow on the international stage. But a Facebook Live video entitled ‘This is Skegness North beach – someone’s attempting to surf the tidal surge… ‘ by BBC Look North ( ) has gone viral after a local surfer Danny tried to make the best of the recent North Sea swells.

Danny Louth, an obviously experienced and humble surfer just having fun in conditions well within his comfort zone, posted a response which was eloquent, explanatory and reasoned… and has now had over 1.1 million views!

Danny was doing the run around, common in areas with currents when there is swell (think Snapper, if you don’t want to picture yourself in 4 degree murky brown North Sea water) when he was reported to the police and the local media as being irresponsible/in trouble. Two local officers were sent to ‘have a word’ with him, and the press went out in force to see what was going on.

Obviously if you are inexperienced please do not attempt to replicate this. And as always experienced surfers please look out for the general public and less experienced surfers.

Olly Fawcett films and edits Reubs at home in Cornwall with his beloved vehicles and at his favourite waves.
