STAN – the story of 13-year old English grommet Stanley Eric Norman. Filmed over the space of 12 months as Stan becomes a teenager and learns some lessons in Hawaii, France, Australia and of course from his pug Jessie at home in Bude, Cornwall. An Onterre films and Surf Solutions project.

“The idea came from that fact that we had a whole load of footage from the last 12 months from the coaching sessions with Stan,” Joel Gray from Surf Solutions. “I see Stan day in day out and he’s a great kid with an interesting back story I think. Seth Hughes is a good friend of Stan and has been getting into making edits and he was the obvious choice for someone to pull the whole thing together as sitting down and getting good interview footage was going to be key.”

18-year old Seth Hughes then spent the last couple of months pulling it all together.
“By far the biggest challenge for me was actually learning how to create a film from beginning to end. I had no idea the amount of people it took to make a film like this. Footage and music etc come from so many different sources so organising all that felt pretty tricky at times. My learning curve was certainly pretty steep during this film.”

And what did Stan make of the whole thing?
“I just love surfing really … It’s the best thing ever!”
