A team of surfers from St Agnes have been crowned champions at the annual Frendzy Cornwall Crew Surf Contest.
The team, captained by former British junior champion Trevelyan Garland, took the crown from last year’s champions Praa Sands in small – but clean – conditions at Gwenver, near Sennen.
Rules for the Frendzy Cornwall Crew Surf Contest, now in its third year, had changed this summer. Teams entering the event had to have five members, one of which needed to be a woman surfer.
The location of the contest is decided on the day, taking into account which coast has the best surf.
Trevelyan pulled off the manoeuvre of the day with a fantastic shovit to put Porthleven into second place, followed closely by a team from Helston.
A surf after party at St Buryan screened the afternoon surf contest on a big screen, and saw revellers dance in four busy dance arenas to local DJs.
The prizes, donated by etnies, Masc Surf Clothing, Lizard and Slut, were presented at the after party with the St Agnes team showering the crowd with champagne.
The organisers of Frendzy said: “The whole thing went fantastically with great weather and a great crowd. We would like to say thank you to everyone for coming along and supporting the event, and to everyone that put in the hard work making Frendzy a big success.”
