Retallack Resort near Newquay have opened a Wake Park to go alongside their Flowrider and Kayaking centre.
The new wakeboarding cable centre has been developed with British Water Ski & Wakeboard and will be run by Julia Haley, a British Champion and one of the country’s top female wakeboarders.
The Wake Park is on a six week trial with the aim of it becoming a permanent feature at the resort. During the trial period, British Water Ski & Wakeboard will be running its Cutting Edge programme, a fantastic youth development scheme which offers young skiers and riders the chance to get into a water sport discipline, develop their skills and even progress to competition level. If the Park proves to be a success, it will qualify for match funding under the Cornwall Sports Partnership scheme, making it a key centre for young people looking to get into watersports.
Riding cable also has its advantages in terms learning (you fall off, the cable comes back around) and air tricks. The lake will feature a kicker designed to cater for the advanced rider and also riders new to hitting obstacles. Beginners don’t need to worry as they will be in the hands of the resorts qualified and experienced cableski coaches who will get them up and on the water in no time.
