ARMAGEDDON DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN
Considering it was supposed to be the end of the world a few weeks ago it passed without so much as even a small comet hitting the earth. Disappointing for the fellows that were predicting it so fervently. On the plus side that means our big wide world of surf is still here to be enjoyed and a normally winter only Welsh spot was on in celebration of our not being extinct.

There’s been a velvet revolution in surfing recently. All down to them of the fairer sex. Yes. That’s right. Women. The performance level has soared in recent times and gone proper bonkers in the last year. So much so that even perennial doubter Ed-In-Chief Steve England has realigned his world view. He jetted off to the world premiere of Leave A Message to meet the ladies on the cutting edge.
THE SPARTAN – MICHEL BOUREZ
The World Tour is not a refuge for party animals and people coasting by on raw talent alone these days. It is serious business. To be the best you’ve got to train in and out of the water and get your game sharp. Michel Bourez is one of the sharpest. He’s impossibly fit, surf’s like a demigod and is a nice chap as well. So why, oh why did he agree to let our readers interview him? Read on to see what his fave cheese is…
IMMERSED IN THEIR WORK
Everyone wants to be a surf photographer. Nobody wants to be a surf writer. Odd cos a writer just needs a laptop and gets to go surf while the photog needs thousands of pounds of gear and only gets to watch. The upside is the photog gets to watch from inside the tube and is involved in one of the most extreme forms of photography around. Here’s a little look into their world.

Mitch Corbett has had a big year, scoring ink in the global mags and two covers here at Carve. He’s been out there doing the do and is earning the coverage he deserves. Here we offer you a smattering of unseen delights from his stint in Co Clare with Mick and the boys. Now will someone please just sponsor him already? WILL BAILEY FOLIO
William ‘The Rat’ Bailey. A short man, he first came to our attention when we ran a rather splendid shot of him pulling a nice air, after which one Mark Vaughan of planet Llantwit said, “He’s a bit handy with a camera.” Which is just about as big a compliment as you would get anywhere south of Bridgend. Along with Mick he is the other prong in our twin pronged Staff Photographer assault. This is his work that we’ve not managed to cram in anywhere else.
THE FORK AT THE END OF THE ROAD
There is no such thing as freewill. Every decision you make is based upon your past experience. In honour of this revelation Jarvi dissects the exact moment his surfing progress in the big wave realm halted. Somewhere in another universe he is charging Chopes. But not in this one. THE HEART OF DARKNESS
Wave’s can not be evil. They are just a geographical accident. What happens when ocean swells collide with coral reefs. That maybe so but this joint, somewhere in far reaches of the Indonesian archipelago is EVIL. A flawless barrel with a deadly end section that will tear you a new one if you aren’t going at warp factor ten and tube ride like a demon. Luckily Matty and Batty do tube ride like infernal beings. This is their tale.
